2020.1 Santiago de Chile
To celebrate a decade of pushing boundaries in the fashion industry, Lupe Gajardo presents her 2020.1 Collection—a testament to her philosophy of creating beauty from scarcity. Initially planned for a March 2020 runway show, this collection was designed during a time of significant change, showcasing Lupe's ability to adapt and innovate even under challenging circumstances.
The 2020.1 Collection is inspired by a future where resources are limited, compelling us to find beauty in what remains. Nearly every piece was crafted using fabric scraps and remnants available in Lupe’s atelier, reflecting her commitment to sustainability and innovation. This collection is a large-scale patchwork of materials and ideas, blending high fashion with the artisanal and the experimental.
This collection features 47 unique looks, including a mix of unisex and women’s pieces. Lupe’s designs emphasize timeless garments like dresses, tunics, suits, pants, and tops, playing with asymmetrical and oversized silhouettes that challenge traditional notions of form and structure. Each garment was meticulously crafted on a mannequin using the moulage technique, ensuring that no two pieces are identical. The collection includes a variety of materials—cotton, gauze, gabardine, denim, velvet, and silks—combined with embroidered and repurposed applications, and some experimental pieces were even treated with acrylic and polyester resin for a punk-futurist touch.
The exclusivity of this collection lies in its one-of-a-kind nature. Each piece is treated as a unique work of art, impossible to replicate due to the use of fabric scraps and the organic creation process. The result is a collection that not only celebrates Lupe’s 10-year journey in fashion but also reflects her forward-thinking approach to design and sustainability.
Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Lupe adapted by preparing a digital launch for the 2020.1 Collection and initiating new projects, including a local mask-making initiative. As the Vice President of Moda Chile, Lupe remained dedicated to supporting the independent fashion community, using her platform to foster creativity and resilience during these unprecedented times.
